Q&A with Julius Kotzsch
We asked Julius, an LIS ’24 alumnus and an International Business student, to share his story with his community. As a dedicated sportsman, Julius embodies the spirit of discipline and collaboration, making him a standout mentor for our students! 🌟
Q: What extracurricular activity significantly shaped who you are today? How did it shape you?
A: Sport has significantly shaped who I am today, whether going to the gym for weight training or playing American Football. Through these activities, I meet amazing people with similar interests. Skills used in sports are also transferable to other tasks in my life: discipline, teamwork, and respect.
Q: How do you stay motivated in overwhelming situations?
A: Two things: I imagined who I wanted to be in the future, and I removed the words “can’t” and “impossible” from my vocabulary. My mindset is that everything is attainable with enough work put in.
Q: What inspired you to join GradTutor as a tutor?
A: I was inspired to join GradTutor due to my personal experience of struggling as a student in certain subjects. Having someone who can explain a topic to you in different ways and takes time to cater to your needs is very helpful and beneficial.
Q: What’s one thing you appreciated the most about LIS?
A: The supportive and international community. LIS is a place where diversity is celebrated, and I always felt encouraged to express and be myself. This helped me grow both academically and personally.
Q: Can you share a moment from school when you made a breakthrough?
A: During Grade 10 IGCSE exams, something in me sparked. I saw the purpose of what I was doing. This made me see studying as less of a chore. This, in turn, reduced the required effort.
Q: What’s one thing you’re looking forward to as a GradTutor tutor?
A: The challenges of explaining to students in different ways to meet their level of needs. Continuously helping my students better themselves, not just in class but also outside of class. Developing skills that don’t just apply to the classroom but also to other areas in life.
