Q&A with William Zhang
We asked William, our inspiring tutor who graduated from ISR in 2023 with top IB scores and is now studying Accounting and Finance at USC, to share his story with our community! 🌟
Q: What felt particularly difficult for you in high-school?
A: Balancing academics, activities, and also life outside of school. It became even more difficult during college application season, where I felt like I was juggling, and even deciding on certain priorities at the cost of others. Looking back, this has taught me to prioritize well, plan ahead, and stay diligent.
Q: How did you stay motivated when school felt overwhelming or difficult?
A: Knowing that as soon as deadlines were over around exam time at the start of Term 3 in G12, all I would have to focus on would be studying for IB, and worrying about my outfits for the grad trip.
Q: What is your biggest achievement?
A: Overcoming hurdle after hurdle doubtlessly. This pertains to college and beyond. Each additional milestone broken and outperformed, only reinforced my momentum. Problem sets, periodics, IGCSEs, SAT, course IAs, EEs, assessments, IB exams, colleges, competitive clubs, internships, breaking into high finance, and far beyond. And balancing these.
Q: What is something you teach all your students?
A: To zoom out and look at things broadly, from time to time. The short-term focus on weekly exams can sometimes prevent long-term scope and thinking, so I like to remind my students that they’re doing just fine.
